Litigation lawyer par excellence

Mr. Cornegoor has more than 20 years’ experience in the practice of litigation. Cases that he has handled in the past and is currently handling are among the largest and most complex cases in Dutch legal history. The authoritative publication Chambers described Mr. Cornegoor as ‘a top litigator and a very intellectual and gifted lawyer’. He also was characterized as ‘very sharp’ and praised for his ‘high quality work’. More recent quotes are ‘knowlege engine’ and ‘makes important contributions to cases by finding the finer details’.  Mr. Cornegoor has been listed in this guide every year since 2007.

Mr. Cornegoor graduated from Leiden University and was admitted to the bar in 1993. He was initially employed by the practice known at that time as Loeff Claeys Verbeke (1993-1997), then worked in Curaçao at Smeets Thesseling Van Bokhorst Spigt (1997-2000) and thereafter as a partner with Spigthoff/Spigt Litigators (2001-2014). Since 1 September 2014, Mr. Cornegoor has been affiliated with Hoff Advocaten.

Mr. Cornegoor has been closely involved in such matters as the legal dispute relating to equity lease products; together with Mr. Hoff he is defending the interests of shareholders in a class action in connection with the failure on the part of Ageas (formerly: Fortis) to fulfil its disclosure obligations; he has also litigated to recover cartel damages, and has a great deal of experience in cases pursued for and against sovereign parties. Mr. Cornegoor acts both for and against financial institutions in connection with violations of the duty of care, including in relation to interest rate swap claims.
